What our editors buy on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (2022)

The holidays are upon us and so is the opportunity to stock up on holiday gifts for others or perhaps treat yourself to something nice on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. One thing’s for sure: our editors won’t sleep on this year’s deals. Read on for the products they’re hoping to save on, including comfortable sneakers for long days of travel, hydrating skincare essentials, and cozy slippers for lounging around this winter.

Tech Essentials

Black Friday comes at a good time for me, having recently lost my AirPods and noticed my Fitbit’s ability to hold a charge dwindling rapidly. I’ve got my eye on a smartwatch-style tracker, the still relatively new Versa 4, as well as second-gen AirPods – the noise-canceling factor of the pros is great for some, but since I run around with my AirPods and the I frequently use the metro, I settle for the less advanced version for safety. Lastly, I’ll look at Calpak’s website for sales – I love the look of the brand’s clear Dopp kits, and I know it will make packing less of a hassle, since I won’t have to fumble around to remember what’s already there. as i go madison standard bearersenior trade editor

Workout clothes and cozy home essentials.

Just as I was about to splurge on new workout clothes, I realized I had to wait patiently for the Black Friday sales. I need a few supportive sports bras and warm half zips that I can wear to exercise classes or under a sweatshirt for walks outside this winter. I also have some cozy favorites on my Black Friday list: Brooklinen silk pillowcases and a new pair of parachute slippers. I’m in desperate need of a new pair of slippers (my current pair has seen better days) and I finally think it’s time to treat my hair and skin to the benefits of silky-soft pillowcases. meaghan kennytrade associate editor

The hibernation season makes me buy household products that will make me feel more comfortable, but also some training equipment that will motivate me to come out of my cocoon. I’ve been looking for a new position for my remote work setup and am looking forward to finally pulling the trigger on a Balmstar ergonomic office chair. I’m also looking to upgrade to a pair of New Balance packable sneakers and need to restock my favorite Girlfriend Collective workout leggings, which are made from recycled water bottles and have lots of pockets. A wireless projector and waterproof boots.

I recently moved, so most of the purchases I’ve been making over the past few months have been supplies to make my empty space feel like home. I’m opting for a wireless projector so I can take a break from my laptop and enjoy the luxury of watching movies in bed without needing to redecorate or focus all my efforts on making sure a TV will fit in the space. Another luxury that I have been able to enjoy is living just 10 minutes walk from work. The only drawback I anticipate is when the snow comes this winter. To prepare, I’ve been looking to expand my winter boot collection and the Ugg Lever Boot has just what I’m looking for. The boots are warm, waterproof, and not incredibly long, so I can easily take them off when I enter the building. —paris wilsontrade producer

new formal wear

Fresh from an awards ceremony in Mérida, where some excellently wrinkled linen suits were on display, I am now in the market looking for one for myself. I run hot, always. I could (and do!) use bedding year-round for this reason, and I feel like my next logical step is to invest in an inexpensive number to test the waters – if it works out, I’ll custom make it. As J.Crew enters what may be a renaissance period, I’m entrusting my formal wear to them for now. —charlie hobbsEditorial assistant

An upgraded speaker and a warm puffer jacket

For someone who hates winter, the little things add up to big wins for me. This brings me to my Black Friday list: a new speaker to take the chills away by dancing at the highest volume, a Glossier makeup kit to add a colorful sparkle to my eyes (how would someone I’m suffering from the cold know with this? what?), and a new Uniqlo winter coat because all its padding offers a similar experience to sleeping on a light but insulated cloud, not to mention that this one has a patterned design, a timeless look. —Jessica Chapel, editorial assistant

Classic Ugg boots and a digital camera.

I’m making some serious plans before Black Friday, trying to game plan how best to spend my money. Most years, indecision gets the better of me and I miss out on deals, bitterly buying the same items at full cost later. But this time, I’m not making the same mistake. Now that the temperatures have dropped, I find myself wishing I had a comfortable pair of Uggs to wear during casual weekdays when I’m working from home or going to trivia with friends. They’re not in character for my style, but I’m weirdly obsessed with them, maybe it’s some kind of 2000s nostalgia, so I’m seriously debating ordering them.

Lastly, I’m considering a legitimate investment item, a mirrorless camera from Canon. I am an amateur photographer, and I especially like working with 35mm film. However, I realize that buying a digital camera would make a lot of sense to me, since I can take hundreds of photos of my friends and family and document fond memories. I recently did an engagement shoot for two of my friends, and I’d like to do more of that sort of thing in the future, for which one of these would come in handy so I don’t have to rent or borrow. gear. I’m looking at mirrorless cameras specifically, rather than DSLRs, because they’re thinner, lighter, and better for traveling or taking with you wherever you go. They also shoot high-quality videos, which appeals to me. Alex Erdekiantravel booking editor

Essentials for hair and skin care in winter

As soon as the cold weather starts to kick in, I immediately notice a difference in my hair and skin. My hair feels less bouncy and my skin gets so desperately dry. I’m looking at some essential hair and skin care products from Sephora to help combat the dry winter weather ahead. I am hoping to save on a high quality blow dryer that will get the job done quickly without frying my hair and a scalp massager that will deep clean my hair leaving it shiny and fresh. For skin care products, I’ll be stocking up on some ultra-moisturizing creams and under-eye treatments. —M.K.
