Our alternative style failing, AAP offered a new idea: Congress’s Salman Khurshid

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said on Monday that his party’s “alternative style and method” failed in the Gujarat Assembly elections, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) offered a “new and novel idea” and hurt M Mallikarjun Khage. electoral prospects of the unit.

The former union minister said the results of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, where the Congress ousted the BJP from power, had given the party a new sense of purpose.

“And I hope we will turn this into a model state (Himachal Pradesh),” Khurshid told PTI.

The Congress won only 17 seats in Gujarat, while it won 40 seats in the 68-member Himachal House.

Talking about the Gujarat assembly elections, he said that the party was in difficulties even before the elections.

“A lot of our politics in Gujarat was based on what happened before the last election…the Patidar movement and so on…we changed our base considerably to try to capture something that we didn’t have in the past but unfortunately it wasn’t sustainable, they did not stay put and wandered away from us again. In a way, our medium and long-term planning was a bit of a mess because of that. We tried to put together an alternative style, an alternative method, but unfortunately it didn’t work,” he said.

“Same lessons, we keep saying the same thing, we will think, we will do…”, Khurshid quipped when asked about the lessons the Congress needs to learn from the Gujarat election results and stressed the need for party leaders to have a real “connection” with the outfitters. .

“We all know what needs to be done, everyone knows what needs to be done, workers now have to work with management to achieve what needs to be done, connectivity is the fundamental issue, real or virtual connectivity is the order of the day, we want real connectivity and we will try to achieve that real connectivity as quickly as possible,” he said.

In Gujarat, AAP’s presence in the fray made the difference for the Congress, according to him.

“If you just look at the arithmetic of how much we lost and how much they gained, it’s clear that they offered a new, new idea and therefore someone who was a little vulnerable (Congress) was hurt. The Aam Aadmi Party is trying to get our votes wherever it can; you can see the form where they participate, in which country they participate. Wherever BJP is the main dominant party without Congress, AAP is not going. So that tells its own story, right? But we don’t want to get caught up in AAP, let’s look at our own shortcomings and address them. We don’t care about AAP,” Khurshid said.
