ABC’s Will Trent is based on which book? An exploration of Karin Slaughter’s acclaimed novel series

Will Trent is the highly anticipated and captivating procedural crime drama series that is set to arrive exclusively on the ABC Network this Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 PM ET / PT. The brand new ABC series is inspired Will Trent (Atlanta) seriesthe New York Times bestselling series by acclaimed author Karin Slaughter.

Daniel T. Thomsen, Liz Heldens and Karin Slaughter served as writers for the upcoming ABC series, while Paul McGuigan and Howard Deutch directed the series’ first season Will Trent.

Since the release of the official trailer, there has been growing interest in learning about Karin Slaughter’s book series, which inspired the ABC series.

Over the course of 12 NYT bestsellers – ten novels and two novellas – Karin Slaughter brought to life the character of Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his partner Faith Mitchell and Angie Polaski.

The latest ABC procedural series is not based on any particular book in the series, but is inspired by the novel series as a whole. The list of all 12 novels and novellas from the series, along with the year of publication, is below:

According to Showbiz CheatSheet, during a recent interview with Hollywood Outbreak, actor Ramón Rodríguez, who portrays the lead role of Will Trent in the series, revealed how much the series will follow the novel series. He said:

“Honestly, my process in terms of the book was to really, in a way, hear the book, see where it all originates and comes from, and then, I watch the pilot, especially when we started and every episode, so, in a way, it becomes own thing,…Even though it’s inspired by this book, and we take a lot from those books, I think at the same time these characters are starting to breathe on their own.”

The actor added:

“I met Karin [Slaughter]. When she came here to shoot, she was lovely and great, and I loved her books. So it was really great to watch her actually embrace something that I’m sure has been in her head for years with this series.”

The series will debut with its first episode on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10pm ET on ABC. The official synopsis of the episode reads:

“When a murder investigation reveals that there is more to the story than meets the eye, Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) relies on his keen instincts and unique experience to uncover the truth. Along the way, he meets again with of his past that helped shape him into the agent he is now.”

In addition to Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent, the promising cast includes Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner and several others. Actress Jennifer Morrison will be seen as a guest in the pilot episode.
